The construction, during the hottest moment of the recent pandemic, of the new Asclepios III Pavilion of the Bari Polyclinic – by the famous Pineda studio – saw the participation of the Paso brand, with a top-level EVAC system.

With two hundred beds distributed across 29 clinics, 40 new intensive and semi-intensive care places and 155 places for ordinary hospitalisation, the new Asclepios Pavilion of the Bari Polyclinic is a tribute, even in its name, to the Greek God of medicine, and represents an undoubted added value for an already large and avant-garde health facility, and prompt response to the challenges to which the pandemic has subjected the national health system. To complete the work, seven new rooms for patients and ten totally isolated wards have been added, created by the famous Pineda studio founded by the Spanish arch star Albert de Pineda.

At the heart of the project, from an architectural point of view, are the concepts of functionality and hospitality, fundamental in a hospital context, in which not only the patient but also the visitor must be made to feel as comfortable as possible. However, the project by the Pineda studio also looks to the future and sustainability, as demonstrated by the choice to focus mostly on ecological and low-environmental impact roofing materials. A perfect example is the roof of the structure, three thousand square metres of greenery on which a real hanging garden rests, designed to immerse the Pavilion in the surrounding landscape of the Policlinico, characterised by many green spaces.

Humanity, reliability and innovation rhyme with safety
If therefore the architect de Pineda’s idea was to pay particular attention to the aspects of humanisation, sociality, interactivity, reliability and innovation, to build what has been called “the hospital of the future”, it is certainly impossible to ignore the factor that is safety. And this is where Paso comes into play. Paso has put its signature on this excellence of Italian healthcare with an equally excellent voice evacuation system, essential in a hospital environment where the need for voice announcements (emergency and/or general calls) is extremely important.

The six-zone system is managed by the controller CR8506-V – a six-line control unit – the heart of  PASO PA8500-VES voice evacuation system, designed to manage all audio signals (evacuation, alert and service messages as well as music background). The RT8506-V router, part of PA8500-VES system architecture, is connected to each line of the controller CR8506-V  and allows to expand up to other 6 zones and to manage external amplifiers with power within 1000 W.

In fact, for amplification the choice consisted in the AW5648 model, a 480 W amplifier certified  EN 54-16, which belongs to the Paso range of power units specially designed for Voice Alarm sound systems and are featuring a real panel selector switch for enabling/disabling front-panel tone and volume controls which does make this series of PASO boosters a premium choice to respond adequately to installations where EN54  VA standards are mandatory.  The AW5600 series stands out for its high reliability combined with a very sturdy structure.

The TSB8500-V (touch screen) and PMB132-V emergency microphone stations were foreseen within the different call points of the building to complete the system.
While in order to ensure the necessary areas coverage and high levels of intelligibility taking into consideration the characteristics of the zones, wide models of speakers certified EN54-24 amongst Paso range have been selected and installed based on their specifications.
