In this almost cathartic beginning of 2021, we took the opportunity to retrace the choices and values \u200b\u200bthat have determined the uniqueness of the company over time with Antonio Faccioni, CEO of Paso. Naturally with one eye on the past and the Geloso legacy, and one on the future and innovation.<\/em><\/p>\n

In Paso the innovative verve and the legacy of over 90 years of work, which flowed into the company in the 1970s with the wealth of skills of the historic Geloso, manufacturer of radios, amplifiers, recorders and TVs, count in equal measure. A company that in the first post-war period was first in many things: from electrodynamic loudspeakers for cinema to the right balance between quality and price – thus contributing to the diffusion of audio equipment to the general public – up to disclosure. Thanks to its Technical Bulletin<\/em>, embodying the spirit of an open-source model forerunner, hundreds of enthusiasts were formed who could hardly have access to this information. We find this spirit in Paso, with an updated look.<\/p>\n

Antonio Faccioni<\/strong> \u2013 Geloso still represents a model for the concepts of Made in Italy and technical support. The technical knowledge, the profound commitment in the design and manufacturing of the products have made Paso able to overcome the model of the catalogue sale to build a complete project with and for the customer, enriched by a support made available not only in the processing phase of the project but also in favour of operators in the field.<\/p>\n\n

Made in Italy represents Paso’s DNA …<\/strong><\/p>\n

AF<\/strong> – And it was one of the key points of the acquisition, dating back to 2012, by FBT, another historic Italian audio company. Indeed, it can be said that with this operation FBT has invested precisely in Made in Italy and in the skills that Geloso before, and Paso now, are bearers of. Think of the investment for the Lainate plant, with all-local electronic production, in particular the SMD (Surface Mounting Device) line, and the subsequent expansion which, in fact, has led us towards an Industry 4.0.<\/p>\n\n

An important choice, which led you to centralise rather than relocate, a choice slightly against the tide!<\/strong><\/p>\n

AF – Yes, by entering Paso we decided to reunite the warehouse that at the time also relied on external providers, consolidate the staff, but above all revitalise internal production. We have thus invested in an electronic production facility, expanded in 2017, right here in the Lainate headquarters. We have chosen to develop internal know-how, to \u2018capitalise\u2019 on the values \u200b\u200blinked to the Paso brand, and to maintain direct control over quality, while maintaining the ability to provide customised products for almost every customer.<\/p>\n\n

How do you manage to keep the balance with the costs, which in Italy are notoriously heavy?<\/strong><\/p>\n

AF – We are certainly not an entry-level brand but abroad, where we make over 50% of our turnover, it’s not a problem. Indeed, Made in Italy is appreciated and sought after. It is different for the local market.<\/p>\n\n

Why did Paso, despite having wider-ranging products and skills, decide to focus on EVAC?<\/strong><\/p>\n

AF – At the time of the acquisition, Paso had already developed products for EVAC achieving all the necessary skills: FBT really wanted to enhance this know-how by believing and investing in it. Shortly thereafter, the UNI 60849 certifications and the EN54 standard – relating to audio in fire prevention – were also implemented in Italy: Paso was one of the first to launch a certified Italian product, this obviously paid off.<\/p>\n\n

How do you build the know-how in the company?<\/strong><\/p>\n

AF<\/strong> – This is another of our essential values! We invest a lot in training: for all department heads, for technicians, but also for sales and marketing staff. We also do the same for our customers, with courses and workshops, obviously online at the moment. It seems a paradox but, despite the need for distancing, with this activity, we have managed to get in touch with many new customers in countries where we were not present beforehand.<\/p>\n\n

What are the projects for 2021?<\/strong><\/p>\n

AF<\/strong> – Of course they are linked to the security sector, but with a Group approach with FBT. We will propose a sort of common platform where the solutions developed by the two companies will converge according to their respective peculiarities: we will therefore be able to approach even very complex projects both for professional sound diffusion and for purposes related to EVAC… seizing the best of opportunities for both companies.<\/p>\n\n

And finally, the question of the moment that cannot be missed… what legacy did Covid-19 leave?<\/strong><\/p>\n

AF<\/strong> – We have reflected a lot on the resilience of our societies in the face of such events. First of all, it seems trivial to say, but Covid has reminded us that we can never take anything for granted. The programme production action and everything that had been planned commercially for 2020 had to be gradually remodelled, according to the emergency in progress: from this difficult year, we learned to look for alternative solutions and to use new tools that, on average, brought unexpected benefits. Indeed, due to the global effect of the pandemic on people and markets, the acquisition of new customers has seen and will see a substantial change in 2021. The growing demand for solutions, coupled with the limited ability to meet face-to-face to build relationships, led to us organising ourselves in a different way to satisfy both the needs of our customers and to seek new partners and build new business relationships.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
